Chester Greenwood Day
Dec 01, 2007. Farmington. Chester Greenwood Day is the annual celebration of the famous inventor of the earmuff, Farmington's own Chester Greenwood! Parade at 10 a.m. in downtown Farmington (parade entries line up at Mallet School on Middle Street at 9 a.m.) with cash prizes for winning floats. Chili contest following parade at Meetinghouse Park. Chester Greenwood Flag Raising at the Franklin County Courthouse after the parade as well. Farmington Historical Society will display vintage Greenwood items at the Titcomb House, as well as selling holiday wreaths. New this year, the chamber is sponsoring a gingerbread house building contest. The Farmington Rotary Club's Annual Festival of Trees will be at the Granary Restaurant all day, with an auction of the trees taking place that evening. Sardine and Maple Leaf Drop
Dec 31, 2008. Eastport. New Year's Eve is happening in Eastport, Maine! The city will celebrate the New Year with the annual Sardine and Maple Leaf Drop from the Tides Institute and Museum of Art building at the heart of the downtown's new public space, Bank Square. The 'Sardine' will be lowered at midnight Eastern Time. A 'Maple Leaf' will be lowered at midnight Atlantic Time (or 11 p.m. eastern) as Eastport is poised just west of the Atlantic time zone with the Canadian islands of Deer Island and Campobello located just off shore in Passamaqoddy Bay.
