Jun 17 thru Sep 04, 2017. Discover the wildlife and plants of Scarborough Marsh as you paddle the Dunstan River. Gliding through the marsh, you will be exposed to its many inhabitants, from the snowy egret catching fish along the edge of the river to the mummichugs swimming in the water. A trained naturalist will show you the numerous marsh plants and even give you a taste of an edible one. This tour is suitable for both novice and experienced paddlers. Aug 10, 2016. The Downeast Lakes Land Trust is pleased to be hosting a Medicinal Plant Walk and Workshop. Amy Zipperer will lead a plant identification walk around Grand Lake Stream, discussing various medicinal properties and uses of common plants native to the Downeast Lakes region. Following the walk, participants will learn how to make their own finished products and will create a sample to take home. A resident of Eastport, Amy is a Registered Nurse and the owner of Dogwood Herbs, crafting and selling products like lip balm, skin cream, and infused oils locally in Washington County. Watch for black-crowned night heron along the bank or snowy egret flying back to a nearby island for the evening. We may even see a harbor seal or a muskrat playing in the water.
